Yeast Infections in
Men
Presented by

Yes, males
can get yeast infections. Many people automatically associate
yeast infections with women but in reality men can contract
them too. A common way for men to get yeast infections is
through unprotected sex with a female that is already infected.
Even through unprotected sex with an infected female it is very
uncommon for yeast infections to be sexually transmitted,
meaning that just because your female sex partner has a yeast
infection you will not automatically contract it through
unprotected sex.
Some men
are more prone to contract yeast infections then others. Men
that have low immune systems, especially those with HIV, have
been proven to much more susceptible to yeast infections than
those with healthy immune systems. If a male does contract the
infection it is very likely that both parties involved in the
unprotected sex will just keep passing the yeast infection back
and forth between each other.
Males can
become aware that they have a yeast infection when genital
itching occurs. If the male is uncircumcised, genital
irritation may be extreme. In some instances there may be
discharge but in many cases discharge from the penis is never
experienced.
Yeast
infections in young boys is also common. It has been determined
that most of these infections in boys can be caused by certain
antibiotics, products containing wheat, corn products, barley,
and peanuts. If your baby or child is on antibiotics they are
very susceptible to yeast infections so it is pertinent to
change their diapers often.
